Yesterday was Yummy's big birthday party, shared with her also-now-four cousin. The last couple weeks have been spent getting ready; I know I do more than I need to, but I get a lot of pleasure out of planning and seeing things turn out beautifully. Yummy's current favourite colour is pink and her cousin's is purple.
I made the party sign last year for Yummy's third birthday using the technique from thatsmyletter. The pom-pom flowers were made using the tutorial from designdazzle.com. Yummy and I gathered the purple irises from our own garden and the lilacs from her grandma's yard. Mr. Man brought the pink carnations home for Yummy last week and Yummy decided some rhubarb seed blooms would make a nice addition to the mix, and I don't think she was wrong.
We rented a bouncy castle for the occasion, and though the rain sprinkled on and off a bit throughout the afternoon, the evening ended with a beautiful blue sky. The kids (and some of the adults) had an absolute blast. At one point, while bouncing in the castle, Yummy was heard to shout, "This is my best birthday EVER!" She was heartbroken when we had to deflate it to be folded and packed up.
I made treat bags for all the kids, so they could each open a little gift. I really love making things, as you may have noticed, and have been working on these little gifts since Christmas. The boys (all lovers of Things with Wheels) got a little combine and a farm playmat with fields, a grain bin yard, and a house yard with a garden (I made my own pattern for this mat). The girls got little pebble pouch babies (I used the pattern from annabranford.com) and a tin bed for a little hello kitty figure, inspired by mmmcrafts. I also found some day of the week magnets for each child and made each a packet of Story Dice -I got this idea from the excellent book, Show Me A Story by Emily K. Neuburger (affiliate link below). For the adults, I made some simple little notecards and envelopes, and Yummy helped me mix together some Rose Petal Bath Salts and bake strawberry donuts (recipe and photo from cookingclassy.com.
All in all, it was a lovely day spent with family and friends.
